Opening our shop in Jomtien

Well life with Noi was very good but at some point we needed to have our own little shop, so we went on a hunt for finding a well located commercial venue.. We've found one ideally located right in front of Jomtien Beach, soi 5..

We rented the local, worked on paint and furniture and getting contacts with wholesalers. Noi had good contacts with a thai business man in Bangkok and that worked for a while, then he moved on another part of Thailand..

But by now things were going well, the touristic season here is so intense that it's easy to sell when you have a shop in front of the beach. We sold stuff for the beach, the usual stuff really, not even branded with Pattaya/Jomtien. It sold like hot bread..

Well, all was good until the owner of the shop decided he wanted to sell to someone and didn't want us here anymore.. In thailand they can.. You have nothing to protect you agains the will of the owner with contacts with high rank policemen.. We tried, but it was vain..

Back to nothing, only 2 years after..

How did I get into this business?

Well, if you're familiar with Thailand for holidays, you might suspect already that I got into this business through LOVE. Yes that's right I felt in love with the country and a particular inhabitant of this country, namely Noi, a superb girl with straight black hair and dark eyes.

Nothing original really, but our story dates way back in the 90s.. Since then of course things changed and nothing will never be the same again. But still that's how I got into the business of selling MIT (Made In Thailand) products to tourists here in Jomtien.

She worked in a shop before and I was on holidays, we met, we felt in love and then I was on a mission to stay and live in Thailand with her. I quit my job and came back here as soon as was humanly possible. Then after several months living a relaxed life, we looked for a place to rent and open "our" shop.

We've found it and worked hard, but then..

I think I'll continue this story in another post because it's another part of my life which is not so happy, there were many problems along the way and they all needed to be solved, they couldn't simply be ignored, unfortunately..

About my business here in Jomtien

Hi, so you'd like to know what my business is about? Well I sell products here in Thailand. I have a shop in a tourism destination and I offer on sale different products typical from Thailand.
My customers are mostly westerners and they seem happy with the choice of products in my shop and the prices, at least I don't get any complaining :-)

I also offer customization of products, so they can write anything on a choice of products made in Thailand. The customization is done by hand by a local Thai who work nearby. He's quite a skilled artist and conveniently he doesn't make the usual mispellings which Thai are unfamous for :-)

So how I got into this business, well that's an entirely other story which I'm going to tell you later in another post.
